Breastfeeding has always been so close to my heart. I nursed my daughter for almost 3 years and my son for almost 3 years too. Breastfeeding is actually what started my love for all things birth, babies, and boobies! I even have a breastfeeding tattoo ;)
I am not nursing anymore, but my love for nursing and the memories of it is something that will stay with me forever. That's why I decided to do this shoot. Having those pictures to look at and bring you back to the moment means the world to me, and I want everyone mama to have those pictures. Goodness knows she deserves it <3
With every birth I attend, I can't help but feel overwhelmed with love and thankfulness that these parents are giving me this opportunity to enter their birth space during this intimate and life changing moment and tell their story. Dad called me at 6PM telling me she was having intense contractions very close together and they would be heading to the hospital soon. I waited, and waited, and that is THE hardest part of being a birth photographer! THE WAITING! But, at 3:45AM I got the "She's 9cm!" text. I arrived at the hospital at 4:00AM and began documenting.
When I say she pushed and gave it her absolute ALL- I mean that. Birth is so unpredictable. Babies are so unpredictable. She did everything right to bring this baby girl into the world safely. I hope these pictures capture just how strong she is, and how hard she worked to bring her baby Earthside. Her birth plan did not go as planned, but this was not a failure. She kicked ass. She pushed for 3 hours. She wore herself to the core. And in the end, she knew it was time to do what was necessary-- so she put on her make up as we reminded her how amazing she is, and prepped for surgery. Without a single negative word.
I am so proud of her.
